In 2024, many residents allocated a larger share of their income toward home maintenance and improvements, tackling essential repairs like fixing leaky roofs, replacing outdated furnaces, updating windows, and renovating bathrooms.
For those facing financial challenges with urgent home repairs or rehabilitation needs, Layton City provides assistance through its Critical Home Repair and Rehabilitation Program. This initiative offers grants to low-to-moderate income homeowners via the city’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program.
For eligible households, the funding can address critical repair issues posing immediate risks to occupant health, safety, or property integrity. Covered emergency repairs include roof replacement, water heater or furnace swaps, electrical fixes, burst pipes, major leaks, blocked drains causing backups, toilet failures, and damaged water or sewer lines.
Rehabilitation projects that qualify include accessibility upgrades, resolving health and safety code violations (e.g., electrical, plumbing, or leaking water heaters), and installing energy-efficient windows, new siding, stucco, or roofing. Additional eligible enhancements may cover new water/sewer laterals, landscaping, attached garages, or driveways. Grants are limited to $10,000 and require no repayment.
