On Saturday, August 15, 2026, dozens of local volunteers gathered along Layton’s Rio Grande Rail Trail for the latest myHometown Day of Service. The multigenerational team tackled a major trail cleanup, removing overgrown weeds, clearing debris, and trimming back unruly tree branches and bushes.
Spanning from Phillips Street at the south end of town to Gordon Avenue on the north, volunteers pulled and bagged weeds, collected litter, and cleared brush. Their efforts made the popular path safer, cleaner, more visually appealing, and less prone to fire hazards. Dedicated trail monitors, gatekeepers, and truck drivers supported the team by directing traffic, ensuring volunteer safety, and hauling away loads of debris.
The myHometown initiative works to uplift local neighborhoods, turning them into vibrant spaces where residents take pride in living and investing their time. Beyond the physical transformations, these service events help build strong community bonds and lasting friendships.
Layton City actively supports the effort by offering project grants, funding, and in-kind services such as street cleaning, heavy equipment, and municipal waste removal.
